HOMEWORK HINTS
Helpful Homework Hints - Top Ten
- Kids learn when there is an established routine. Set a specific time when they are to do their homework, preferably before the television goes on.
- Ask them every day if they have homework. Check their books to see what they have
been doing each day in class, even if they do not have set homework ask them questions relating to what they have done.
- Let the children work at their pace and don’t put time restraints on them – at home
their shouldn’t be any pressure to have things done as quick as possible.
- If they are having difficulty break the task down into a series of steps, let them master
each step before moving on to the next step.
- When they have finished doing their homework ask them questions about what they
have just done, this aids in their understanding and helps to re-enforce what they have
learnt.
- Have some homework rewards ( ie when you have done your homework you can..)
- If you are worried about your child’s progress and homework tasks get a diary for
them to take to school. Write in it your concerns and have them take it to school to
give to the teacher , he/she can then have direct contact with you.
- Always encourage your child, never put them down.
- Don’t stress, different children have different abilities and learning styles. Brothers and sisters are not the same and don’t always mature and learn at the same rate.
- Don’t worry.. it’s not always as bad as it seems…. they will be grown up in no time.
